Transport of Dangerous Goods

Course Outline

Initial licence: This course aims to meet the National Competency Standards, licensing requirements in accordance with Workcover and the Australian Code for the Transport of Dangerous Goods. The course also educates drivers of the responsibilities associated with the Transportation of dangerous goods.

Renewal: The course is designed for transport drivers who need to update their knowledge of the Australian Code for the Transport of Dangerous Goods to renew their licence. Licence renewal is required every three years.

Duration

2 full days (initial licence)
1 full day (licence renewal).

Trainer / Particpant Ratio 

1 :24 (maximum)

Entry Requirements

Participant must:

  1. Hold a current Heavy Vehicle Driver's Licence for the vehicle they will be driving
  2. Original and photocopy of current drivers licence
  3. Under go a medical examination for Commercial Vehicle Drivers
  4.  Provide a driving history report from the appropriate , road authority.
  5. Have reasonable English literacy skills.
  6. Be at least 21 years of age

The course is accredited by Workcover Victoria as providing the necessary skills and knowledge to enable participants to receive / renew the licence required to carry bulk dangerous goods.

Course Objectives

At completion of the course participants will be able to:

  • Identify requirements for working with Dangerous Goods and/or Hazardous Substances.
  • Confirm site incident procedures Select handling techniques
  • Handle and store dangerous goods and hazardous substances.
  • Assess suitability of transport mode for intended load
  • Identify and follow emergency procedures and equipment
  • Evaluate documented route plan
  • Complete assessment process
